Ras Judah's debut album

Finally, the long-awaited debut album by Makwarela’s very own Ras Judah is out. Titled “Let thy kingdom come”, the album boasts 7 original reggae tracks. This album will introduce fans to the man who has a slick and hypnotic voice. Wherever Ras Judah and his band perform, people are always left yearning for more.

Although this is Ras Judah’s maiden album, he has been in the music scene from a very young age, singing in informal youth bands and also in church. Having been raised in a family where reggae sounds were constantly blazing, it is no surprise that this devout rasta chose this genre and made it his own. He has worked with seasoned artists such as ‘Gift Maringa’ and ‘Jah Soldiers’ on their recent projects, ‘Avha nne’ and ‘Nndededze’ respectively. He has an amazing voice that cuts through the music and make the listener easily fall in love with his music.

 

The album opens with the title track, “Thy kingdom come”. This version features ‘Wire’, ‘360’ and ‘Jah Soldiers’ on vocals. The acoustic version of the same song is also on the album (track 4) and features ‘Bellafonte’. ‘You’ is a love song, which according to Judah himself was inspired, written and sung for a very special person in his life. With the catchy line “hezwi vha tshi mmbona ndo tou rali, ndi ene” shaped romantically, it promises to be a song to celebrate love in this women’s month. Dancehall singer ‘Ras Mash’ comes with guns blazing on Track 5 titled ‘Rise again’. Other songs include ‘See us through’, ‘Nnditsheni ndi tuwe’ and the bonus track ‘Mary Jane’.

The album was produced by Tendamudzimu Netshilulu and Mulalo Mukwevho, while all the songs were composed by Ntshudu “Ras Judah” Guduvheni.

Proheed: The future of Venrap

July 18^th is a very special day in the hearts of South Africans and their history. The whole country, if not the world, take 67 minutes to do some good for the community, anyway, anyhow. 2014 was much more important as it is Mr Mandela’s first birthday since his passing in 2013. Muvenment headed up to Jozi and hooked up with the hottest rapper of the moment, Proheed. Muvenment, together with Proheed then headed to Vukukhanye Pre-School in the East Rand carrying some goodies for the little ones. We sang with the kids, danced around and made sure the yard was swept clean for the future rappers of Mzansi. The teachers were more excited and I was glad we could find some gratification by doing something for the community in the spirit of our former statesman.

Now here is a superstar who is getting much airplay, much publicity and as soon as his full album is out, I don’t know what more. ProHeed is a 20 something year–old rapper from Tshamusburg (Tshamutavha) Village, a few kilometers outside of Tshilamba in the Limpopo Province. You might not know his name by now, but believe me, it’s just a matter of time before you do. Full of energy, this m’rapper burst onto the music scene with much hype that one wonders, is this a fluke or for real. Well, those questions will be answered later this year when his debut full album hits the shelves. Proheed‘s lyrics are unapologetic, hard-hitting and sounds real. This is someone who has the right ego for an emcee, bowing down to nothing and taking the rap game to another level. He claims no one can better put down a rhyme like he does and he has taken over as the main man when it comes to Venrap.

In a genre where more seasoned Emcees such as Mizo, Bella, Tman, Post etc. are dominating the industry, the young and energetic ProHeed seems not to be fazed by such. With his stinging fast rap and tight lyrics, there seems to be nothing ready to stop this boy from a rural village of Tshamutavha. ProHeed is busy in studio working on his full-length album which will follow on the heels of his much-publicised single, Vengo which is doing well and receiving the much-needed airplay. He is recording the album with the legendary DJ Davic of the ever-shining Masana Records, who has produced a countless number of hits over the years. From the uproar that Vengo has caused, one cannot wait to hear the full album, which Proheed himself can’t stop singing praises to.
