Cornerstone releases Tshanduko/Changes

Cornerstone has released their third studio album titled Tshanduko/Changes. The album produced by Mulalo Mukwevho, is testament to Cornerstone’s maturity as a band. I remember a few months back on facebook when Cornerstone was promising fans that they were cooking something very hot at the Burning Shak Studios, and I thought to myself, as an artist I wouldn’t blow my own horn, but today as a proud owner of this album, I understand. The well-arranged sing-along vocals, blended with the serenading horns make listening to this album a priceless experience. Listen to songs such as Track 2, “Music” from the album then you’ll understand the power of music. The melodies, sang by true gentlemen in spirit, are just out of this world.

The album has 12 tracks and features Khakhathi Tshisikule, Khathu and Charlie Sinyosi on the song “Thusani”.  “Tshanduko” opens the album with some mind-blowing keys and then blows to full instruments together with the prayer-like chorus. Pete ‘Smee’ Nimmo from Scotland is featured on the track “Winter rain”. I couldn’t help but sing along to the sad but soothing chorus as I was also feeling like going home, to be with my friends, to be with my mother, to be with my father, to be an angel.

Whatever formula Cornerstone is using seems to be working. So Cornerstone fans, don’t say I’m closing you out, the album is out. Go get yourself a copy. TSHIMA AWARDS 2012 : The nominees

The first ever Tshivenda Music Awards (TSHIMA) will be held on the 17^th of November 2012 at the Thohoyandou Town Hall. The awards, which have been long overdue, will be hosted by Phalaphala FM and will feature the prime of the Venda music. Artists such as the legendary Irene Mawela, the Thrilling Atists, Dan Tshanda and Paul Mulaudzi will grace the red carpet as they compete for the Lifetime Achievement Award.

David Mmbi, who created a storm with his debut album “Lushie lwo naka” has three nominations, Best Tshivenda Tradition, Best Newcomer of the year as well as the highly coveted Song of the year for his hit song ” Nese la Tshilidzini”. It is very intruiging to think of who will walk away with the Song of the year award. Adziambei Band’s song (“Nwana o ngalangala”) from their comeback album, “Shango lo takala”, has also been nominated for this category.

 

Worship House, who have been nominated five times in this year’s Crown Gospel Awards, are favourites to grab the Best Tshivenda Gospel Award. This won’t be any easy considering other nominees in this category. They are up against Rofhie, Albert Mudau, Lufuno Dagada(right) and Hani Mutele.

 

The South African king of Reggae, Colbert Mukwevho, is up against Khakhathi Tshisikule, Denga Tshisikule (the only female), Just Ice and Humbulani Ramagwedzha. Tshivenda hip-hop, which has been growing over the past years, is also one of the categories that fans cannot wait to hear the verdict of. The competition is tough with Killer Gee, T-Man Gavin, P. Postman, Mizo, Coolfelo and Komrade Li in the pack.  For the Best Tshivenda Praise singer, the nominees are Venda Poet Boy, Ndivhuyafhi Godfrey Musubi, Bornwise and finally, Muebi & Ranwedzi. Nominees in other categories include Malondolo (Our Venda Diva), Jinika, Bellafonte, Zozo, Tshigomboza and Tshidino.

Lion & Son o' Lion Tour comes to Pretoria

The Lion & Son o' Lion Tour is making its way to Pretoria this month-end. The tour which kicked off in style a few weeks ago in Polokwane (Meropa) promises to be one of the best shows Pretoria has ever seen. The show, featuring Colbert Mukwevho & family, P. Postman (Percy Mukwevho) will be in Marafco on the 31st of August 2012. Marafco is situated Corner Mandela drive and Skinner streets.

Li do da duvha

Black Leopards, well known as Li do da duvha, are on a quest to conquer Africa and this coming Saturday (14 July 2012) will prove to be extremely decisive for the team from the north. Li do da duvha plays Al-Merreikh of Sudan at Ellis Park stadium on Saturday afternoon. Leopards will be looking to improve their performance in order to cancel the first leg deficit that they suffered in Sudan. Al-Merreikh beat Leopards 3-2.

Black Leopards, despite their lacklustre performance in the domestic league, have always played entertaining football. Their only let-down is their shyness towards goals which have left them languishing in the Premier Soccer League.

I believe Leopards will advance to the group stages and urge all South African to rally behind Li do da duvha on Saturday. With support from the SAFA President Kirsten Nematandani, recently appointed Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund, Li do da duvha are determined to fly the South African flag once more.

Thina's album launch 04 August 2012

I got hold of Thina's latest offering two weeks back from someone I know from home. I quickly went to my CD player eagerly wanting to hear what my homeboy had to offer. I might be the only one who does this but whenever I get a new disc, I skip through songs, looking for that one song that my soul will fall in love with. When I stumbled across a song called "U Mudzimu", I knew I had found my song. I don’t know how many times I have listened to this beautiful track, and every time I listen to it, it doesn’t even feel like I have heard it before. I have now fallen in love with the whole album, titled Calvary, and can’t wait to witness Thina blessing us with the gospel music from this album. Other songs include: - i lay my life, khavha rendwe, sefapano, lefu la hau, duvha li mangadzaho, e jwale, tsini ha murena and Jeso mutshidzi. David Mmbi - Lushie lwo naka



Late last year, it was declared that ‘Adziambei Band’s album, ‘Shango lo takala’ took Zahara’s music out of fashion. I am not sure to what extent this was the case, all I know is it put Venda music on the map once more. So I’m sure this album will break more than one records. I and my colleague were in desperate need of David Mmbi’s album since we heard ‘Nese la Tshilidzini’ on Phala-phala FM. I thank Vho-Mpho na Tshigi, or Majantibhayi, as they are famously known, for making me fall in love with David Mmbi’s music. I remember the first time I heard ‘Lufuno’, I was taking my wife to Bosman station to take a bus to Venda. Tshigi mentioned that this song would fit perfectly if it was being used as an audition song for Idols. I agreed with him then, but after getting hold of the album, I promise you, David Mmbi is an outstanding musician whose music is more than just music.

One thing about me is if I like something, it better be good. David Mmbi’s music is too good. When I heard that he was coming to Ha-Mavhele (Pretoria), I was excited, of course. I was not disappointed at all, I got the three copies I wanted. The bonus is I also got to see him perform, armed only with his acoustic guitar. The performance was outstanding. Thank you David Mmbi.

The album is titled ‘Lushie lwo naka’ (an infant is beautiful). It has 8 tracks. The title track, ‘Lushie lwo naka’ is a song advicing the youth to take the issue of abortion seriously. I plead with you guys, please listen to this song with an open mind, and let’s help create a sense of responsibility to ur nation. ‘Lufuno’ is a love song which, once you listen to, you’ll always be hooked to it (and love). I wish there was a video for this song. I am sure, the video for this song would help market this well-built project more than a success for David Mmbi as well as for the Venda nation as a whole. With this, I can’t wait for the live DVD which is scheduled to be recorded later in the year. I, for sure, will keep you updated with all the relevant details relating to that. Other songs include, among others, 'A dovhe a mu fune', ‘Mukegulu’and ‘Nyamutwawolala’.

Lufuno Dagada Live DVD recording

Lufuno Dagada will be recording his Live DVD at the Pretoria State Theatre on Saturday 24 March 2012. Tickets are going for R150 and the event starts at 6 pm.

Anthony B, Colbert Mukwevho, P. Postman (Percy) ..... live in Jo'burg Newtown

Saturday the 10th of March, South Africa (Joburg) will be graced with the live music of reggae icon, Anthony B who hails from Jamaica. Newtown is the place to be if you are looking for some fresh sounds from Jamaica as well as locally. My favourite artist, Colbert Mukwevho (aka Harley) will be there doing what he does best, preaching to the masses. His son Percy, known to his fans as P. Postman will also be performing there, and I'm sure you don't wanna miss this kind of event. Whenever Colbert is performing, expect fireworks and skanking non-stop.

Khakhathi & Friends : Ndi tshivhotshwa feauturing Mudededzi

Khakhathi & friends has released their latest offering titled "Ndi tshivhotshwa". The album features the hit track, Mudededzi, which has been receiving massive airplay recently.
