Word is that the Tshivenda Music Awards (TSHIMA) have been postponed to the 20th of December 2013. This came as the Republic of South Africa is still in grief at the passing of former President Nelson Mandela on Thursday the 5th of December 2013. Ha Mavhele nga Mugivhela: Adziambei Band

The award-winning "Adziambei Band" will be performing this coming Saturday (09-11-13) at HaMavhele in Pretoria. This is an interesting time for the band as they have just released their latest album, 'Mutulagole'. This album follows in the footsteps of "Adziambei Band"'s comeback album which won a Tshima award last year. HaMavhele is proving to be a popular spot for visiting artists from Venda. The last few weeks have seen the likes of Zozo, Colbert and Tshigomboza mesmerising fans at the venue. This weekend promises not to be different.

IT’S A HERO’S PARTY

The long-awaited live album by Colbert Mukwevho is finally out. Titled ‘Lion & Son O’ Lion Live in Johannesburg’, the album is one of the best to come out of this continent. The double disc album feature P.Postman (Percy) as well as the ever-green Junior, P.Postman’s younger brother, who did a classical ‘One in a Millionnaire’ in dedication to his dad’s birthday.

The album was recorded in Bassline, Johannesburg last year. It was indeed a hero’s party when Harley, as Colbert is famously known, dished out the people’s favourites tunes on the night. The album contains songs such as ‘Nda mu fara’, ‘Ndo takala hani’ ‘Heroes Party’, which you can hear the fans singing along to loudly. I must say, P.Postman’s perfomance was out of this world as he blessed the energetic fans to a night to remember.

muvenment is equally excited about the launch and is giving away the Double Disc album to two very blessed fans. All you have to do is answer the simple question and, voila, the autographed CD might be on your way.

Competition question: WHICH SONG PERFORMED DURING THE LIVE RECORDING WAS SO IRIE THAT THE CROWD CONTINUED TO SING AFTER IT HAD ENDED, PROMPTING HARLEY TO GIVE AN ENCORE TO THE PARTY?

Colbert 'Harley' Mukwevho DVD Launch

History was made last year when Colbert “Harley” Mukwevho & Family recorded their first ever live DVD at Bassline in Johannesburg. The venue was full, the atmosphere electrifying, and the performance out of this world. I saw the preview of the DVD on youtube and believe you me, this is a must have for all “Harley” fans. The sound, the picture, the music and the people were just too perfect and I can’t wait for the SAMA’s (South African Music Awards) to see if this time they can scoop an award for best DVD of the year. I hope I’m not the only one, but I can’t wait to see ‘Hero’s Party’ which I’m sure is going to be one of the DVD’s highlights. The DVD will be launched on the 30th of March 2013 at the same venue, Bassline (Newtown, Johannesburg).

Fans have been eagerly waiting for the long overdue DVD. Now, come the 30th of March all this will change as “Harley” will launch the DVD titled Lion & Son O’ Lion Tour Live DVD. “Harley”, whose career span well over three decades will be launching a DVD which will surely put his reggae music and his band on the global market. The DVD features Colbert’s sons Percy (aka P.Postman) and the young, ever-energetic Junior. Junior, to the amazement of all present, beautifully performed Bob Marley’s hit ‘How many times’.

A big argument is going on that reggae music has no place in today’s society. I do not engage myself in such, and I’m sure a lot of people will stop once they get the copy of the DVD. Reggae music is very much alive and still relevant. Colbert has never disappointed his fans, I doubt he ever will. From his early years with the Comforters, being Harley & the Rasta Family, now Colbert Mukwevho & Family, he has produced hits, anthems, hyms etc. He is a legend, Period! Remember ‘Hero’s party with Brenda, ‘Soon and very soon’? Remember ‘Hoyo wanu o naka’, ‘Tshigotshanama’? Remember Why??, Mmbwa I do lammbwa? Remember Senzo Mthethwa’s ‘Worshipping your love’? That’s Colbert ‘Harley’ Mukwevho for you. South Africans, embrace what’s yours. I used to sit and think that I should have been born during Bob Marley’s era, and yesterday I realised that there are kids like me who would wish they were born during ‘Harley’s era. I am living my dream now, and one day I’ll sit and brag about being there when history was unfolding.

To Colbert’s management, ndi ri mishumo yavhudi ro I vhona. A ni ri tshileli!

The Town I Know

The Town I know

looking outside this window

I see the town I know

It’s after all a day’s work

about stopping and everywhere

taxis must and they warn you

even cops will search an innocent pocket

preaching no smoking anyway no why

It’s rivalry between faces that has never met

sirens wake you up from nowhere

opened eyes see the good the bad and the different

come home brother

that’s where we belong

my love already here?

probably waiting for the bus

do I hear a yes?

just the build will amaze you

the flower’s blooming again

soon it will be time to go home

children’s playground’s not for sit-in parks you adulterous cheats

seek home, humble pie

you live a lie

at nine you’re back in line

ONE LOVE ONE HEART CONCERT

Come the 16th of February 2013, Saulsville Arena will never be the same again. Three Tshima awards winners are heading for Pretoria this summer and you can expect nothing but fireworks on stage. Colbert “Harley” Mukwevho, Adziambei Band and Vho-David “Nese la Tshilidzini” Mmbi are going to headline this music extravaganza dubbed the One Love, One Heart Concert on the 16th of February from 19H00. Tickets are selling fast and can be purchased from Shoprite Checkers and Computicket for R80 only.

Harley, as Colbert is known to his legion of fans world-wide, is known for his electrifying live perfomances. Saulsville residents will remember his performance at the same venue a few years back. Fans can expect nothing less from the maker of famous hits such as ‘Ro dzula ro digeda’, ‘Dou kanda wa fa’, ‘Tshigothsanama’ and many more. Colbert, his sons P. Postman and Junior Mukwevho recorded a live DVD last year which is scheduled to be released in March this year.

Adziambei Band’s album,’Shango lo takala’ has received positive reception from the both young and old. The comeback album, released after a long break from the industry has done wonders to the Venda music industry with its hit track, ‘Nwana o ngala-ngala’. If you have never witnessed Adziambei Band performing live on stage, this is your opportunity to see these music old-timers from Mutale doing what they knoe best, entertaining the masses.

‘Nese la Tshilidzini’ came out and created waves all over the country. Vho-David Mmbi was the name associated with this classic song. The song was from the award winning album ‘Lushie lwo naka’. Once you listen to Vho-David Mmbi, you are surely hooked forever. I watched him performing at Ha-Mavhele last year (2012), and I must say, Venda is blessed.

Untitled still

Blue lights by the Jacarandas

Students still walk past

Guess what, the wishing hasn’t gone

I pine for home

Let he who has, hear my ear

It is a tough road, sisters

One day we’ll be together

Let our souls dance together

You know the love

Waits for no queue

Through it we conquer all

Like, like one day Babylon shall fall
