Sedzi speaks about her album

The Venda nation once again has new raw talent in Sedzani “Sedzi” Daswa. She is a young female who has recently released her debut album titled “Who’s that girl”. In this issue, Vhukhudo Ndou sits with Sedzani Daswa in an exclusive 10 questions interview in a quest to discover who Sedzi is and what her debut album is all about.

VN: Welcome to muvenment Sedzi! 

SD:  Thank you! It’s really an honour to be here.

VN:  Let’s get to it! Who is Sedzani Daswa  a.k.a “Sedzi”?                           

SD: Sedzi is more than just a singer but an artist who expresses herself, life and experiences as well as emotions through writing and music as an art. She is someone who is loved by people and as a token of gratitude, she also loves and respects people mutually.

VN:  What motivated you to release an album after years of releasing singles/mixtapes?

SD:  WTG or rather “Who’s that girl” was inspired by people who listened to Sedzi’s musicand kept asking themselves who the singer is. People always asked “ula nwana o imbaho kha ila track ndi nnyi?” (Who’s that girl who sang in that song?).  So I decided to put myself out there.

VN:  Take us through your debut album.

SD:  The WTG compilation consists of songs that talk about life in general and thoughts that cross every human being at least once in their lifetime. I worked with the likes of Faceboy, Lamphady, Comzero, LutroDaMusic, Batondy, Lil-F, Candy, Flomatic, Meskay and YB on the album. You don’t want to miss out on this

VN:  Why Hip Hop/Rap?

SD:  I don’t like focusing on the same thing for too long, I am a person of variety.  I don’t only sing Hip Hop music but I sing pop music as well and music that lovers or couples can relate to.

VN:  How far do you want to take your music career? Your vision……..

SD:  I want it all. I want to put myself out there. I want to work with international artists one day, I want to be on shows, TV, Radio and do lots of live performances. I believe I was born a success and I just have to work hard to get to where I want to be.

VN:  Who has been your pillar of strength?

SD:   My father in Heaven.

VN:  Are you a student or are you working apart from your music career?

SD:  I am currently working on my career in the sport and fitness industry. I am a student at e.t.a college in Centurion, Pretoria.

VN:  Do you have any gigs lined up for the forthcoming Easter holidays?

VN:  How has the feedback been following the release of your debut album from people around you?

SD:  I’m loving it. The feedback is positive and constructive

VN: What can you say to other young female artists who would like to follow in your footsteps?

SD:  Believe in yourself and don’t let anyone try to define who you are.

PART TIME STREET FAMILY ON THE RISE

A Wiseman once said that, “every diamond has value if dedication to the refining of the diamond is at the uppermost level, no matter the roughness of the diamond”. This statement is evident in Shakadza, a village Limpopo where the art of music is being portrayed beautifully by a group of three young boys called “Part Time Street Family”. The three young boys, Ramsey Sotshayo, Zandizile Mungadi and Ndou Talifhani are energetic artists in Hip Hop, a music genre that was rarely embarked on by artists in villages as Hip Hop is seen as an urban genre. All three members are still in high school and decided to follow their dream still. 

The group has been rising rapidly in popularity and have produced hit songs such as “u kho funiwa” that took the whole village by storm as people jammed to the track. Some other tracks produced by the group are hip hop/gospel numbers, one of those tracks is “find my way” where they appreciate God for their gift and reveal that they believe in themselves although critics will always be there. The group has performed in big gigs such as an event hosted at the Mutale Arts and craft centre and was recently in the line-up at the Next Generation Tour at Mutale Town hall on 26 December 2015. Part Time Street family are proving to be a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. The wealth of talent amongst the group combined with the most important ingredient to success which is “hard work” will surely see the group of the three young men blossoming in the music industry in the near future.
