LUFUNO MUNZHELELE GOES LIVE, VIRTUALLY
Lufuno Munzhelele will be performing
some of his popular songs in an online event that will be streamed live to a
global audience. Songs to look forward to include the single ‘Ḽi ḓo ḓa ḓuvha’, ‘Ngani Nṋe’, ‘Ri ḓo rabela’ and ‘Sunday afternoon’,
which are mostly tracks from his yet to be released EP. The performance will be
streamed live on Wednesday 16 December 2020 from 19:00 on his YouTube and
Facebook Pages. The online event, supported by ConcertsSA and Mukona Media will
be free to view, all the viewers have to do is subscribe to the MEC Media Page where the streaming will take place.
Lufuno Munzhelele Live! is an annual
show that Lufuno started 3 years ago as a way of taking live music to the
people. This year’s edition will be different in that it will be streamed live
on Yotube and Facebook as a way of our positive contribution towards curbing the
spread of the pandemic. “We took a
decision this year to try a different approach which will assist greatly in
reaching new audiences across the globe. The internet has made this world
smaller, but the advent of COVID-19 showed us that we can live, work and
perform live over the net to a wider audience.” _Lufuno
Lufuno was born into a musical family
in the heart of Venda in Mutale region, Makwilidza. His music influence has
been predominately the traditional music, Reggae and most importantly the
African Apostolic music, where his late father was a Pastor. “I played the drum at my Father’s church.
Each and every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, we were in church and I always
looked up to the singing and dancing.” Lufuno is now a Music student at the
Vusi Mahlasela Music Foundation which he says has opened his eyes to a whole
new world of music and performance. “I
cannot emphasise the importance of Music education enough, Music theory really changed
the way I approached my art and I can now proudly say I am an artist who understands
what’s going on in my music”_Lufuno.
Lufuno started writing poetry and
short stories at an early age. His imaginary mind had him humming his own tunes
early where he subsequently teamed with his childhood friend, Humbulani ‘Reggaeman’ Ragimana, to form a group
called “HardRock”. “Humbulani had a
handmade guitar from oil tins which was my first experiment with a guitar. He’s
the one who introduced me to Reggae, really. We’ll release our materials
together as soon as we’re done with the current project.”
Lufuno’s performances have always been
energetic and entertaining, while taking the viewers into a journey of a musical
experience. Him and the band have worked hard to get the sound that they can

REGGAE LEGENDS COLLABORATE FOR A GOOD CAUSE
Legends Kenny Murabi and Dr Colbert Mukwevho’s much awaited collaboration project is out and is available in all online stores. DOWN BUT NOT OUT was recorded at Adziambei Music Academy and comprises of two songs only. All proceeds from the project will be donated to disaster relief programmes. With love in their hearts and soul in their voices, they molded collective harmonies with the hope of uplifting the nation as we heal and rebuild. The project was recorded at Both Kenny Murabi and Dr. Colbert Mukwevho are known for their advocacy through their music for the well being of African citizens.
‘Down But Not Out’ is dubbed the greatest collaboration to come out of the local Reggae scene; both Kenny Murabi and Dr. Mukwevho delivered what can be called their best performances. The first track, ‘Cry No More’ is a mellow tune where the singers are asking every one of us to heal the world with love as the world is plagued by pandemics and wars. ‘Feeling Down’ is an upbeat and danceable tune that completes this listening experience. The exchange between the legends is truly amazing and will remain as a reference for many years to come on how a powerful collaboration is delivered.
KENNY ‘WAILER’ MURABI, also known as ‘The Teacherman’ which also refers to his professional career, is a seasoned Reggae artist whose first album, HOLY WAR, released in 1991 formed the foundation of Roots Reggae, singing in Luvenḓa and English. DR. COLBERT MUKWEVHO was conferred with an honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Arts and Social Sciences by the University of Venḓa in 2018. In the same year Munghana Lonene FM honoured Dr Mukwevho with the Companion of XiTsonga Music Award for his contribution to the XiTsonga music.
