A Wiseman once
said that, “every diamond has value if dedication to the refining of the
diamond is at the uppermost level, no matter the roughness of the diamond”.
This statement is evident in Shakadza, a village Limpopo where the art of music
is being portrayed beautifully by a group of three young boys called “Part Time
Street Family”. The three young boys, Ramsey
Sotshayo, Zandizile Mungadi and Ndou Talifhani are energetic artists in Hip
Hop, a music genre that was rarely embarked on by artists in villages as Hip
Hop is seen as an urban genre. All three members are still in high school and
decided to follow their dream still.
The group has
been rising rapidly in popularity and have produced hit songs such as “u kho funiwa” that took the whole
village by storm as people jammed to the track. Some other tracks produced by
the group are hip hop/gospel numbers, one of those tracks is “find my way” where they appreciate God
for their gift and reveal that they believe in themselves although critics will
always be there. The group has performed in big gigs such as an event hosted at
the Mutale Arts and craft centre and was recently in the line-up at the Next
Generation Tour at Mutale Town hall on 26 December 2015. Part Time Street
family are proving to be a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. The
wealth of talent amongst the group combined with the most important ingredient
to success which is “hard work” will surely see the group of the three young
men blossoming in the music industry in the near future.
